Lighthouses You Can Stay At

United States

California

Alcatraz Island - San Francisco Bay
http://www.nps.gov/goga/spug/alcatraz/azon.htm
The Alcatraz Work Service Project/Overnight Program is truly a unique experience. Groups travel by ferry to Alcatraz on a Saturday afternoon to perform a 1-2 hour work project, such as vegetation management or cellhouse maintenance. After the work project, groups receive a guided tour by a Park Ranger. At night you can cook you dinner over the barbecue we have waiting for you on the island. At the end of the evening, groups retire to their individual cells in the D-Block.

Due to high demand groups are selected by a lottery system. Each year we accept letters of interest between November 1-30 only for dates scheduled for the following year. Dates are pre-scheduled by the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and assigned as groups are chosen from the lottery. Dates cannot be rescheduled.

The cost of the Alcatraz Overnight Program is $1,250.00 and the maximum group size is 35. There are additional age and insurance requirements.

Selkirk Lighthouse - On Lake Ontario
http://www.maine.com/lights/accom.htm
The SELKIRK LIGHTHOUSE, also known in some historic literature as the SALMON RIVER LIGHTHOUSE, open to the public for daily, weekly and monthly rentals for most of the year, is not a B & B in the traditional sense. We treat it as a housekeeping setup, whereby we provide all linen, blankets, pillows, pots, pans, dishes, silver, appliances, etc., for someone to move in on short notice with no more than the clothes on their back. It is completely furnished, forced hot air oil-heated with a brand new system, and contains numerous personal memorabilia from my having used it as a personal residence for two years prior to opening it for rental when the demand became overwhelming. In essence, it is a complete waterfront home overlooking Lake Ontario and a working commercial harbor (seasonal) ready for occupancy by 6-8 people from April to mid-December annually.

The Lighthouse
http://www.lighthouse-llandudno.co.uk/
The Lighthouse was constructed in 1862 by the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company who, with great attention to detail, built a fortress like building using dressed limestone and vast bulks of Canadian pitch pine.

The beacon remained a continuous warning to mariners until March 22nd 1985 when the optic was removed. It can now be viewed at the Visitor Centre on the summit of the Great Orme.

On entering the Lighthouse you are immediately impressed by one of the most interesting rooms, the Keeper's Hall. This has a unique 6m (19ft) pitch pine panelling and gallery, built merely to allow privacy between the two keepers and their families. Breakfast is taken in the North facing Victorian dining room, which allows guests to look down over a 100m (360ft) vertical drop whilst enjoying the traditional Welsh breakfast for which the Lighthouse is widely renowned.

The inn is believed to be the last classic "shingle-style" hotel still in operation on the Maine coast. In wonderfully original condition, it has been altered only enough to bow to modern ideas of comfort, with baseboard heat and plenty of bathrooms. In 1904, there were two baths for 26 guest-rooms.  The Inn is a short drive from Bath, where you can take lighthouse boat cruises from the Maine Maritime Museum. Also well within driving distance is Boothbay Harbor and Pemaquid Point.

Rabbit Hill Inn - Lower Waterford
http://www.rabbithillinn.com Ok, so the lighthouses in Vermont are on Lake Champlain in the western side of the state, and the Rabbit Hill Inn is on the other side of the Green Mountains, in the eastern part of the state. But it is WELL WORTH travelling that distance to stay in this Inn. This is one of the best Inns that we've ever stayed in. The rooms are huge and beautiful. The 5 course gourmet dinner is fantastic, and the people who run and work in the Inn are super-nice. Treat yourselves and stay in this Inn.
